The timetable used for the allocation of water time at Garon Park for club sessions will be the timetable produced by the ASA, this will be used for all the swimmers from both BOSS and SOSSC for the immediate future. Dear members,
I am very aware how upset so many swimmers and parents are about the situation they find themselves in. It is unfortunate that the swimmers are now caught up in this and we all need to do all we can to rectify this situation. Comments made on the Southend Echo website comments page have been very unpleasant, but they should not be used to create bad feeling between the swimmers and parents that will influence the future. It has taken 30 years to get to the point where we are close to a reunified club in Southend, so we all need to make sure we play our part in making sure reunification continues in order that the new club can provide quality swimming and coaching for future generations.
I have always made it clear that I am more than happy to step aside if my involvement is not beneficial to the swimmers. It is now time to make it clear that I will continue to support SOSSC until the end of the year but I will not be part of the newly formed club in January 2011. The Head Coach position I believe should go out to open recruitment for a full time qualified coach of National Standing. I hope the parents and swimmers will be involved in the recruitment process and will welcome and support the new coach.
I totally understand the actions taken by the swimmers and parents on Monday evening and the frustration that they feel. You were not threatening or intimidating but conducted yourselves in a calm and peaceful manner. I am sure those in authority in this process will have taken note of your stand. I would, however, ask that there is no further protest or actions which may affect swimmers’ access to the pool. Any concerns or issues still unresolved should now be addressed to Colin Maynard on info@southendonseaswimmingclub.co.uk
I would like to thank all the swimmers parents and support staff, past and present, for their dedication and enthusiasm for the swimming club; it has been an honour to work with you all. I wish the new club and all its members every success and look forward to watching the progress of our developing swimmers in Southend.
Kind Regards
Helen Lawton

Dear Member
Just a quick note to advise you that a conference call with Nick Harris - Council; Ian Collins Chair of BOSS & Nick Sellwood - ASA took place this afternoon.
The outcome of this call is that SOSSC will now go into the pool at Garons on Thursday (4 lanes & 2 hours) and Friday (8 lanes 3 hours) with the possibility of the Diving pit when available on Friday. This combined with Belfairs on a Saturday morning will allow us to put in place our own program which will get all swimmers, particularly development swimmers back in the water. Helen is working on this program as we speak and will advise the swimmers and coaches accordingly in the next 24 hours. We no longer have the pool on a Monday night - this is now a BOSS evening.
You will have read that our Head coach effectively resigned from the Club as at 31st December. I have asked Helen to stay until 14th Feb when the Council and ASA are looking for the two clubs to become one with a Head Coach for the new club appointed. I am immensely pleased to say that Helen has accepted to see us through to this period.
Finally, I have discussed with the officers of the Club and agreed that we will wave the December fees as a gesture of goodwill to our members and would like to sincerely apologise for the problems we have all experienced over the last few weeks.
Colin Maynard

Members of Southend on Sea Swimming Club were joined by Council Derek Jarvis, the portfolio holder for Culture and Tourism and David Robinson the President of the East Region Amateur Swimming Association to celebrate the club receiving swim21 accreditation.
Swim21 is the Amateur Swimming Association’s ‘quality kite mark’. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members. Based on the principles of long term athlete development, it enables clubs to help athletes, teachers and coaches and administrators to achieve their full potential. It focuses primarily on the needs of the athletes – striving to provide them with the best possible support and environment.
Southend on Sea Swimming club first achieved the accreditation in 2007 at competitive development level and have now reaccredited for another four years adding accreditation for their highly successful teaching Academy and masters section.
