DIFFERENT TYPES OF DIVES Diving is divided into Six Groups of dives. The first four
cover dives with different rotations. The fifth covers any
dive with a twist. The sixth, used in platform diving,
begins from a handstand start.
FORWARD GROUP – The diver starts facing the water
and rotates forwards.
BACK GROUP – The diver starts with their back to the
water and rotates backwards.
REVERSE GROUP - The diver starts facing the water and
rotates backwards.
INWARD GROUP – The diver starts with their back to the
water and rotates forwards.
TWISTING GROUP - These dives can be executed in
any of the groups above, but with the
body twisting around the long axis.
HANDSTAND GROUP – These dives are only performed
from the platform. The diver may
start from a forward or backward
handstand and rotate forward,
backward or reverse, and include
twists in any group.
